Archer City is a city in Archer County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Wichita Falls, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Archer County. The town is named for Branch Tanner Archer, a commissioner for the Republic of Texas. Its most famous native son is the author Larry McMurtry. The current mayor is David Levy.
